"Personally, English had always been a burdensome subject for me, and since secondary school, I had constantly hovered around the D and E grades, which left me demoralised and unwilling to put in any effort for English.

However, things took a turn for the better when I joined Teacher Casandra in Secondary 4, albeit slightly late in the year. Despite my late enrollment and poor grades, Teacher Casandra did not give up on me at all, instead doubling down in an effort to spark my interest in the English language.

What followed my enrollment was a rather intensive series of lessons. Despite having two to three lessons per week in a subject that I had originally disliked, I found myself enjoying her lessons, and studying English was becoming less of a chore as the lessons passed.

Within the short span of five to six months, I not only jumped from an E grade to an A grade, I also grew to love studying English.

I am sure that many of you can relate to me, having struggled significantly with English in secondary school or General Paper in junior college. A majority of us probably sit through our lessons not actually learning much, and leave more confused than before. I feel that this is often because the school curriculum often lacks structure which makes lessons very flummoxing. This is also often the case with many tuition centres I have tried.

However, when I first began lessons at GP Tuition Casandra, I realised that there are actual skills required and proper structures to follow, which made the subject much easier for me to grasp.

For example, in Paper 2, when tackling an SAQ (Short Answer Question), we first need to identify if the question is Level 1 (L1), Level 2 (L2) or Level 3 (L3), followed by the question type. Afterwards, all we needed to do was apply the learnt sequence of steps for each specific question type, and score. Even if I did not score full marks for that question, I still managed to obtain most marks compared to many others in the cohort who scored 0 simply because they were unable to even tackle the questions."

"GP used to be a daunting subject for me as no matter how hard I try to study for it, my result had always been hovering around the S or E grade. I could remember feeling anxious and worried as A levels was just around the corner and yet I was not achieving the result I wanted. That was when I decided to join Ms Casandra’s lessons and I would say it was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

I believe that many students like myself are unsure of how to properly prepare for GP exams and are just blindly memorising articles or examples. After joining Ms Casandra’s class, she made me realise that GP isn’t just abut that. On the contrary, it is a subject that requires the use of many appropriate techniques.

For example, for essay writing, Ms Casandra would break the essay down to different segment and patiently teach us the required techniques to score well for each segment. After doing so, by applying all the techniques Ms Casandra taught and by following her format in tackling the essay questions , writing a GP essay soon became a smooth and straightforward process.

Not only that, in Ms Casandra’s lessons, she would diligently go through the different topics in an entertaining and engaging manner such that those examples she go through would be engraved in your mind. Despite sitting through countless lectures and tutorials on the different topics and various approaches to both papers 1 and 2, I still thought that I could approach GP the way I did with English during O levels.

As expected, my grades remained stagnant throughout the first year. It was only after my promotional exams (when my tutor had this speech asking us to wake up our ideas due to our terrible grades) that I realised that I still did not have an understanding of what GP actually is despite studying it for a year.

Although I was happy to be able to pass my GP exams without help for the past year, I started panicking as A levels were approaching soon. However, being a stubborn person, I told myself that as long as I put in more effort, I will be able to excel. Hence, during the December holidays, I compiled my school’s notes and researched on topics to ensure that I had enough evidence to use in my essays and AQ.

Even though my tutor in school had his own methods of approaching GP, I sat through every lesson not absorbing anything.

There was a time my classmates were discussing how they gave up on this subject and are not intending to look for external help which made me think that maybe I should too. It wasn’t until I got back my results for BT1 in JC2 where I finally accepted the fact that I still wanted to ace this subject and will not be able to do well unless I seek help. Through my brother’s recommendation, I eventually reached out to Ms Cas!

GP is a subject where one needs to have relevant and up to date examples in order to excel. Besides, language plays an important part in GP too; one must be able to show concrete and elaborate examples and paraphrase words and phrases with precision and accuracy. I had neither the language nor the content to excel in GP and it bored me till the point that I was sleeping in GP classes and neglecting the subject during examinations.

"I have always been rather confident when it comes to languages, but when my GP grades remained stagnant for many tests and exams, it became slightly demoralising.

Other than jumping more than 3 grades for ‘A’ levels, I also thoroughly enjoyed Ms Cas's lessons, because not to exaggerate but lessons with her really were a joy. Ms Cas's notes and techniques are the bomb. Despite long weeks at school, I always look forward to Ms Cas’s lessons on Saturday. GP no longer felt boring or like a chore. Ms Cas teaches us content in a very interactive way that makes it so much more intriguing. Slowly, I became more invested in worldly affairs and not just for the sake of GP. I was especially interested by topics like ’Violent Conflicts’, ‘Foreign Intervention’, Media’ and ’Science and Technology’ which I previously had close to zero interest in.

I always barely passed my GP exams but never knew where the marks were coming from, and didn't know what I was doing right or wrong. Most importantly, I wasn't confident in my ability to do well for the subject at all. Hence, after much deliberation, I decided to join Cas and it was really the best decision I made! I learnt so much within just 2-3 months and regretted not joining her sooner.

Cas really piqued my interest in the subject. With her vast knowledge of the world and events happening around us, I was always left in awe after each content lesson and looked forward to more. They really broadened my horizons and my understanding of global and current events were deepened.

"GP has always been the bane of my existence throughout my JC life, with my grade lingering around U or S. I always dreaded studying for it and I always found that it was impossible to study for GP. It was only in June last year that I realised that I needed serious help to pull that ugly grade up, with A levels only 5 months away. Things took a turn for the better when I joined Ms Cas's tuition mid-June.
On the first lesson I attended, Ms Cas’s lesson had already captivated me and showed me that there was an interesting side to studying this subject, which includes looking at the bigger picture of what is happening around you. GP content no longer seemed bone dry as it was in school. The videos that Ms Cas always shared caught my attention since the first day and piqued my curiosity to learn more about the various topics we've covered. I first thought that topics covered in GP were independent of one another and one would have to study a few of them to have a rather strong foothold in the subject. But I was clearly mistaken when Ms Cas taught us how to link topics together and make them dependable on one another. She also taught us the formats of writing, and how a simple structured flow is all that is needed to achieve a good essay. Soon, my essay writing skills improved drastically, with me having more confidence to write. The examples I slotted into my essays were more concrete, my writing flow became more structured, and my essay writing flowed more smoothly.

Ms Cas also had a flair for spotting essay topics, and she would constantly analyse the trends during the previous years and predict a set of topics that may count come out. For example for our year, she explained that AI (artificial intelligence) hadn't appeared in any of the past year papers and is definitely a big thing in the world today. Since that topic piqued my interest, it was one of the topics I studied the most for. "GP was a subject that I was most afraid of, especially since my language ability had been one of my biggest problems since secondary school. Unsurprisingly, E had been the most frequently seen grade on my report card for GP. I was so helpless when it came to improving my grades for GP, and it seemed like I was stuck in this dark tunnel where I didn’t see light. This feeling made me really detest this torturous subject.

However, I joined Cas’ classes when I was in the middle of J1, and that’s when I discovered that GP wasn’t as mundane and torturous as it appeared to be. She taught me that GP isn’t just a normal English paper, but is also about learning about the world, which eventually broadened my horizons. She managed to bring to me so much knowledge about what was happening outside Singapore, and at the same time got me to critically think about those issues by using her unique way of teaching- which made lessons way more interesting!

Even though at times I still did not manage to score the best grades, she never gave up on me! Instead, she reviews all her students’ school examination papers and goes through those with them to identify their weaknesses and how to target them effectively.

"I've always been secure in my linguistic abilities, but the moment I started scoring Cs in JC for every single GP exam, my confidence took a huge hit. I couldn't figure out how to break past that barrier that was keeping me from getting an A.

However, I joined Ms Cas' centre for her workshops and regular lessons 3 weeks before A's. Right off the bat I loved her teaching style, especially her way of guiding us on how to think critically for every case study. How she expands upon every single topic with her own general knowledge (which is vast) and points out new angles to arguments really amazed me and I was so eager to learn that. For once, I didn't fall asleep in any classes.

She has an unwavering belief in every student and is able to bring out the best in us. She is a competent teacher that is able to both refine students' abilities further and build the foundations of GP for those who were at the bottom.

For A's, writing the essay came as easily as breathing as I studied the topic before and, due to the unique way the lesson was conducted, I remembered most details and thought processes behind each argument and was able to successfully pen down my ideas coherently.

For AQ, an extremely uncommon topic came out, but the techniques that Ms Cas taught us were drummed into my head and I was able to successfully construct a satisfactory answer using the framework she taught us. "I've always been secure in my linguistic abilities, but the moment I started scoring Cs in JC for every single GP exam, my confidence took a huge hit. I couldn't figure out how to break past that barrier that was keeping me from getting an A.

However, I joined Ms Cas' centre for her workshops and regular lessons 3 weeks before A's. "Growing up, I’ve always disliked written English in general. As such, I did not listen in lectures/tutorials & my grades were horrid. I was never able to do well for any written essays as I didn’t have strong content. Since primary school, I had the mindset that English was just a subject where you can just smoke & study at the very last minute for it. For my GP exams up till J2 midyears, I had always been scoring Ss and Es. My essays were always ~23/50, never more than 25.

However, after joining Cas GP Tuition, I started to get stronger in GP. At first, I thought that the videos she shared with the class were irrelevant as I found them boring. After a few lessons, everything started to be pieced together. I initially thought that the different topics were independent of each other. However, under Cas, I figured that there would always be a way to link one topic to another, say Government and Arts...
